Help Essential theme update for Moodle 3.2 & 3.3 by crowdfunding #Moodlethemes

Essential theme for Moodle – the most popular and appreciated theme for Moodle needs your help to get an upgrade for the new Moodle versions. Gareth J Barnard – the current maintainer of the essential theme is seeking the help of Moodle community to fund the development of the theme.

The crowdfunding campaign for Moodle 3.2 & 3.3 version started o 08th of February with a target goal of $437 (GBP350) on or before 02rn of Marchc 2017. Till date, however, the campaign is able to manage almost 220% of the target funding with 3 more days left in the campaign.

New features to be developed:

The new features/tasks for the upgrade of the theme includes:

  • Improving / checking the CSS to make sure that it is compatible.
  • Check / add new icons.
  • Produce a beta version for M3.2, release, be paid, and then promise (as per last time) to bug fix to a stable version.
  • Produce an alpha version for M3.3 as the development now stands, release and monitor changes to the M3.3 development. Upon release of the stable M3.3, release a beta version and finalise any last-minute issues towards a stable version.
  • Check that the overridden course format classes operate correctly.
  • Remove and check all RTL styles as new CSS ‘flip’ mechanism in M3.2. Please see ‘RTLCSS-PHP’ – https://github.com/moodlehq/rtlcss-php.
  • Investigate if it is possible to use the new core ‘logo’ and ‘compactlogo’ settings instead of those in the theme.

As of now, Gareth is able to develop a beta version of the Essential theme for Moodle 3.2 which can be tested from the github page of the project here.

Essential theme was originally created by Julian Ridden and quickly becomes one of the most downloaded and appreciated theme for Moodle. After that, the theme is maintained by Gareth quite fantastically.
