Breaking – Moodle 3.3 release delayed by a week!! Other minor versions releasing next week #moodle3.3

Here is a bad news for all the folks waiting for the release of Moodle 3.3 – the new version release of Moodle is delayed by a week. The delay is attributed to the slow QA cycle which is currently sitting at a pass rate of 73%.

Moodle HQ’s Marina Glancy broke the news about the delay in the release of Moodle 3.3 on a forum thread. However, the decision will not impact the release of other minor point releases for the currently supported versions. Moodle 3.2.3 and 3.1.6, 3.0.10 and 2.7.20 are scheduled to be released on next Monday i.e. 08th of May 2017.

This will be the last release of Moodle 3.1 with general bug fixes. However, being a LTS version it will be supported for security fixes for two more years until 13 May 2019. Similarly, this will be the last release for Moodle 3.0 & 2.7 branch. Check out the Moodle release calendar below for more information.

Moodle 3.3 QA testing status

The QA testing for Moodle 3.3 has lost the momentum since last one week and the current status if as follows:

Total Tests568
Passed416
Opened126
Failed26

As per Marina’s post:

There are still many tests that were not taken and we do not want to promise to release in a week when bugs can still be found during testing the remaining issues. We will greatly appreciate if you can help with the testing of the upcoming release.

I request all the Moodle users reading this post to give your small efforts in helping Moodle 3.3 achieve 100% pass rate. If you need any help in QA testing you can read the QA testing guide and send Helen Foster a message to add you into the Moodle Testers group.

Moodle 3.3 is encompassing many exciting new features which I had listed down here. Hope that Moodle community will clear all the Quality Assurance tests for Moodle 3.3. The next scheduled date for Moodle 3.3 release is 15th May 2017. We will keep you updated about the recent happenings in Moodle World, stay tuned.

Happy Moodling!!!
