#MoodleTip – How to Limit concurrent logins from same user on your Moodle Site

October 8th, 2015

Many times Moodle Site administrators are concerned about multiple logins from same user on their Moodle site. By default Moodle doesn’t prohibit multiple logins from same user account. If a user is concerned about this, they can view their Browser sessions page which provides information about current browser sessions with the associated IP address.

Earlier there is a plugin named Unique login which can make sure that each user in Moodle only has one active session simultaneously.

In Moodle 2.9 another new feature added is to “Limit concurrent logins“. This setting allows you to specify how many concurrent browser logins are allowed. Once the limit is reached, the oldest session will be terminated.

You can limit the concurrent logins from Site Administration > Plugins > Authentication > Manage Authentication > Limit concurrent logins. Please note that users may lose all unsaved work. This setting is not compatible with single sign-on (SSO) authentication plugins.
